I’ve worked at Care Support Scotland since 2019. Before that, I worked in the Manufacturing industry – so joining the Social Care sector has been a big change. Every day is a school day. I’m still learning as I go, and still discovering new things. It’s very different from my previous role.
Joining Care Support Scotland opened my eyes. Before working here, I didn’t realise how dependent people are on the kind of service that we provide.
I applied for this job because I thought it would be fulfilling to work for a charity, rather than working for companies that are purely sales-driven. And it is! It’s really rewarding to be part of a company that’s giving something back to the community.
I don’t get to spend a lot of time with the Service Managers, but it’s nice when I do get to meet up with them and hear what they’re doing. They really do care about the people we support. They do a fantastic job.
I work in finance, so I’m not around to see a lot of things that happen in services. But you do hear stories and it melts your heart.
Although I don’t get to support our service users in-person, it’s amazing to know that I play a role in a company that’s doing such good work. We’re all trying our best, as a team, to move Care Support Scotland forward to help even more people.
Everyone has their own skills that they bring to the table. Our Support Workers and Senior Support Workers have the ability to get hands-on and give care to the people we support. My skills lie in finance, so I can make sure things are ticking away nicely in the background.
I pride myself on doing a good job and making sure everything’s accurate, and being able to supply the right information. Working at a charity, it’s important to make sure everything is accounted for – and that we’re following the correct policies and procedures.
Working here isn’t about how much product you can sell, or meeting sales targets. Instead, our goal is to do good.
This is a very exciting time to be working at Care Support Scotland. We recently had a big change in senior management, and our roles are currently developing. I recently got promoted, and have a new Head of Finance who I get on really well with. Right now, my role is all about developing the team.
It’s really busy, but really rewarding. In my new role, I’m going to try and get out of the office and spend more time with the Service Managers going through their accounts and budgets. Hopefully I’ll get to meet more of the people we support. I’m looking forward to that!
There are lots of opportunities to learn and grow within the business. Especially if you’re keen, and willing to put the hard work in. Over the next year I’m hoping we’ll see a lot more growth.
There’s a lot of opportunities ahead. I think our new management team has big ideas to drive the company forward, and this is a great place to be if you like hard work and dedication.
If you’re thinking about applying for a job at Care Support Scotland, my advice would be to go for it.
