If you’re based in the Lothians, you can use your self-directed support credits to get the care that you need from Care Support Scotland.
What is self directed support?
Self directed support gives vulnerable people and their families more control over where to source the care that they need.
This service is provided by councils across Scotland. It’s all about giving people with support needs the independence to choose what they need, based on what’s important to them. For example achieving life goals like living by themselves.
How do I get self directed support?
The process starts with an assessment by a social worker or care manager. Once they assess the person’s needs, they allocate a certain number of hours. These hours can be spent with a care provider of the person’s choice. Such as Care Support Scotland.
How is self directed support managed?
There are four different ways to manage self directed support. You get to choose the one that’s most convenient:
- Direct payment: the council gives you money to arrange support yourself
- You choose, but the council (or another organisation) arranges it for you
- You ask the council to both choose and arrange support on your behalf
- A combination of the above.
Whichever you choose, you’re in control.
