A Brief Introduction to Tenancy Support

The service aims to prevent homelessness by proactively engaging with people to support them in dealing with a range of issues, such as finance, health, education and family relationships. Our team works with multiple partner organisations to create wrap around support that enables a person to maintain their tenancy.

Who We Support

Our Tenancy Support Service in Midlothian is available to all Midlothian Council tenants. Referrals are made via the Council’s housing team.  Tenants accessing the service may have experienced relationship breakdown and trauma, domestic abuse, have acute mental health needs and/or require support with their substance use. Issues securing or maintaining employment or education, and financial challenges can be present.

The service is designed around trauma-informed practice, and the staff team works to harm reduction principles.

The service usually works with people Monday to Friday; however, tenancy support is flexible to an individual’s circumstances

What’s it like at Tenancy Support

Our staff team is led day to day by a Senior Support Worker. We have a staff team of 4 who work across Midlothian to provide a responsive, flexible service to council tenants.

Our team works hard to maximise independence and to support community engagement. The team will work with partner agencies regularly, and will support the completion of onward referrals, as well as support with access to Education, Employment or Training, and in completing welfare applications where required. The team communicates daily with the housing team at Midlothian Council.
