Supporting Independent Living With Core and Cluster Services

Care Support Scotland - outside residents enjoy groups activities to keep healthy

At Care Support Scotland, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to lead a fulfilling and independent life. We are dedicated to providing person-centred support for individuals with learning disabilities and neurodiversity, enabling them to thrive within their communities.

What is Core and Cluster?

The model involves individuals having their own tenancies – typically houses or flats – situated close to one another, often on the same street or within a small geographical area. This group of homes forms the ‘cluster’.

The ‘core’ of this model is a nearby, easily accessible support hub or office, staffed by our dedicated support workers. These workers are on hand to provide assistance and support to the individuals living in the ‘cluster’ of homes, ensuring help is always close by.

Why Core and Cluster Works

This model supports true independent living:

  • Individual Accommodation: Residents have their own homes, fostering a sense of autonomy and the development of essential life skills.
  • Increased Safety and Security: With support workers available nearby, individuals and their families have peace of mind, knowing help can be provided quickly and efficiently.
  • Tailored Support: We deliver support based on individual needs and preferences, from budgeting and cooking to personal care and accessing healthcare.
  • Privacy and Personal Space: Individuals can enjoy their own private living spaces, respecting their need for privacy and their individual routines.

A Thriving Community

The ‘core and cluster’ model also actively works to build a strong sense of community. The team at Care Support Scotland actively promotes:

  • Shared Activities: Residents have opportunities to participate in shared activities and social events, facilitated by Care Support Scotland staff.
  • Wider Community Integration: We also support individuals to engage with the wider local community, accessing local amenities and social opportunities.
