Caltongate
Care and Support Service

Located in the Caltongate neighbourhood, it has a convenient location right beside Edinburgh Waverley train station, the Royal Mile and the Scottish Parliament.

Caltongate has 12 properties in its core and cluster and also provides community outreach services. It’s registered with the Care Inspectorate as a dual Housing Support and Care at Home service.

Caltongate mainly provides accommodation with linked independent living support. It can also work on an outreach basis with people who live in the local area, outside of the cluster, and have greater support needs.

Who Caltongate Supports

Caltongate works with young people and adults who are 16+ and need independent living support. Caltongate’s services are mainly for those who have diagnosed learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and neurodiversity.

Caltongate also provides outreach services and mental health supportive housing in Edinburgh for people with acute mental health conditions, such as schizophrenia.

At Caltongate, we provide care and support from 25 hours per week (for accommodation with linked support) up to 24/7 care (105 hours per week, plus overnight support).

Living and Working at Caltongate

Caltongate has a staff team of 22. They work a variety of shifts to provide 24/7 care and support throughout the week. Our staff team is led day-to-day by a Team Leader and a Senior Support Worker.

Caltongate is a modern, well-regarded service – celebrating 10 years this year – and boasts a very central location in Edinburgh. The service has a mixture of one- and two-bedroom flats with access to a beautiful garden. The service supports a community of people from various backgrounds, who all receive person-centred support from the diverse staff team.

The staff hub is right next to the flats, sharing space with our head office. This modern, front-facing office space has shared working and collaboration areas, as well as individual break-out spaces.

Our team works hard to maximise independence and support community engagement, giving people the chance to take part in a range of activities that help them thrive.

With a calendar of events throughout the year, the people of Caltongate actively engage in making this independent living service a very special place to live and work.
