West Lothian Mental Health Service

Our West Lothian Mental Health Service is available across West Lothian. The service provides Housing Support to people 16+ who have a diagnosed mental health condition. It works with the West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership, and with mental health teams across the county.

A Brief Introduction to West Lothian Mental Health

The service works with supported individuals to provide flexible support focused on a range of issues, including harm reduction, managing mental health, finances, physical health, education, and family relationships.

The accommodation-based element of the service comprises a house with four bedrooms in Livingston, for people with acute mental health needs who are not able to live independently in the community. There is a staff base located directly beside the house, which supports people to live as independently as possible but with direct support easily accessible 24/7.

Usually, people referred to the accommodation-based service have had periods of inpatient care in a mental health ward or service.

The service can also provide an outreach Housing Support service for people with diagnosed mental health conditions across West Lothian.

Who We Support

The West Lothian Mental Health Service is available to anyone living in West Lothian and who has been assessed by the Health and Social Care Partnership as requiring support to live independently. People accessing the service will have a diagnosed mental health condition, some of whom will be leaving in-patient care and will require support to begin to live independently again. People may also have several other presenting issues in addition to their mental health needs, such as relationship breakdown and trauma, domestic abuse, substance use, physical health / disability or employability challenges.

The service is designed around trauma informed practice, and the staff team works to harm reduction principles.

The accommodation-based provision is staffed 24/7, and outreach Housing Support usually works with people throughout the week and is flexible to an individual’s circumstances.
