We are looking for a new Housing First Support Worker to join our team, delivering Housing First support Across Midlothian.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about changing expectations and experiences of people we support, many of whom have experienced significant trauma, exclusion and stigma. Despite the challenges they face they have incredible resilience, survival skills and a wicked sense of humour. They know what a good, and not so good service looks like.
In Housing First, we work in their own tenancies to support them in fostering safety, choice and control in their lives. You’ll be based in the community, working one to one with individuals to provide person-centred, trauma informed support linking in with other agencies and partners as required. As part of our Housing First team member, you’ll contribute to the development of our Service, provide support to colleagues and work to improve outcomes for the people we support.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Provide support that positively impacts person’s we support health and wellbeing
- Contribute and implement support plans
- Be responsible for the delivery of all support and its administration, including tenancy support to sustain
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Access to a car due to rural outreach locations
- Qualified to the level required by the SSSC as a support worker in a housing support service/care at home service, or a willingness to work towards and to successfully complete qualification within the SSSC specified timeframe.
- If you’re starting a career in social care or are already working in social care but don’t have the qualifications just yet, we will support you to gain the appropriate qualifications needed to register without condition with the SSSC.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
- Passion for helping people live independently
- Experience or interest in housing, social care, or community support
- Commitment to the values and mission of Care Support Scotland, and to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Assist / MHFA / SafeTalk trained
- Naloxone trained
- Mental Health or Substance Use qualifications
- A practice qualification (at least SCQF level 7 or above) recognised by the SSSC, in the category of support workers in a Housing Support Service / Care at Home service, or willingness to work towards this.
- Understanding of benefits and budgeting support
- Previous demonstrable experience working within an adult social care setting
- Understanding of the Care Inspectorate and its purpose
- Understanding of the SSSC and its purpose
- A Positive Behaviour Support, or Trauma Informed Practice qualification or accreditation
About the Service
We offer a range of support across Midlothian through our Midlothian Temporary accommodation partnership. We provide a range of service models including, Housing First and Tenancy Support with support being provided in people’s homes.
