St Leonard's
Care and Support Service

St Leonard’s is a core and cluster independent living support service in central Edinburgh’s Pleasance neighbourhood.

St Leonard’s has 23 properties in its cluster and also provides community outreach services.

This service is registered with the Care Inspectorate as a dual Housing Support and Care at Home service.

The service mainly provides accommodation with linked support. It can also provide outreach services, such as care for the elderly at home, to those in the local area who need support.

Who St Leonard’s Supports

St Leonard’s provides broad community social care and independent living support for young people (16+), adults, and older people (55+).

Originally just an older person’s service, St Leonard’s has adapted to meet the changing needs of the local community. As a result, it also provides support to young people and adults too. It’s naturally developed into a well-regarded community social care hub.

While its service has broadened, St Leonard’s still continues to provide care for elderly people in Edinburgh. It has a specialist older person’s provision, with expertise in older age conditions – such as dementia and Parkinson’s.

As well as care for older adults, the service supports adults of all ages who have:

  • a diagnosed learning disability
  • an acquired brain injury
  • neurodivergent conditions
  • acute mental health conditions
  • substance use issues
  • physical disabilities.

The service provides bespoke, person-centred care and support to help people live as independently as possible.

Whilst St Leonard’s is a broad social care service, our team is large and contains specialists across each of the support areas we work within. We understand that people rarely have just one support need, which is why we consider St Leonard’s to be a specialist social care service.

Care and support at St Leonards is available from 25 hours per week (for accommodation with linked support) up to 24/7 care (105 hours per week plus overnight support).

Living and Working at St Leonard’s

St Leonard’s is a vibrant community of people from various backgrounds, who all receive person-centred support from a large, diverse staff team.

Our staff team of 40 work a variety of shifts to provide care and support 24/7 throughout the week – including a dedicated night shift team who can respond to support requests within the local community. They’re led by three Team Leaders and a Senior Support Worker.

The St Leonard’s team works hard to maximise independence and support community engagement, enabling people to take part in a range of activities that give them support to thrive.

In the middle of the core and cluster, you’ll find our recently upgraded support hub. This building has modern staff work spaces, a large central space where the people we support can take part in group activities, and a large leafy garden where many summer activities take place.

St Leonard’s is a stone’s throw away from Edinburgh city centre’s shops, and a short walk to local bus stops and Edinburgh Waverley train station.
