Homeless Prevention - Care Support Scotland - Independent Living

A Brief Introduction to Pentland House

It is a large accommodation space, providing emergency and temporary accommodation and support to people who need urgent access to accommodation as a result of homelessness. The service will meet the needs of a range of young people and adults, many of whom will have multi-faceted support needs.

The service has a large accommodation provision, comprising 35 rooms, with a mixture of single and double rooms.

The service receives referrals from Midlothian Council.

Who We Support

Pentland House works with young people and adults. It can receive Out of Hours referrals from Midlothian Council and can also provide urgent accommodation provision for people who require accommodation in the evenings or at weekends.

The service supports people with a range of needs, sometimes complex in nature. Some residents have experienced relationship breakdown and trauma, domestic abuse and can have acute mental health needs and/or require support with their substance use.

The service is designed around trauma informed practice, and the staff team works to harm reduction principles.

The service has staffing 24/7, to ensure that people receive support whenever they need it.

What It’s Like at Pentland House

Our staff team is led day to day by two Senior Support Workers. We have a staff team of 10 who work a variety of shifts to provide care and support 24/7 throughout the week.

Pentland House is an emergency accommodation service, where there can be frequent changes of residents. Staff in the service need to build rapport quickly with residents, assess their needs and work with Midlothian Council to review move-on arrangements.

Our team works hard to maximise independence and to support community engagement. Some of the residents will receive support from other services, for example, for mental health, substance use or criminal justice
